I've moved on.  Sorry, I know, it's sad.

You can now find me here: meganf.tumblr.com.

I really like the format better.  I highly recommend you get your own tumblr, and then "follow" me.

Regardless of who you support in the election, she's got some good points. Plus, Hillary Clinton looks somewhat like my mom, so I can't hate her by default.

I don't get it.

at Pilates class yesterday, they played a smooth jazz, Kenny G-style version of "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.

If you can think of anything worse to hear, please inform me in the comments.

light a candle for Virginia Tech

Hey guys,

I know I haven't posted on livejournal in about a million years, but I'm going to try to get better at that.

Anyway, tonight, Northwestern students gathered around The Rock for a candlelight vigil mourning the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings, and it was one of the most moving things I've ever experienced.

There must have been about 200 of us, crammed around the chaplain's podium, holding candles. The candles kept going out from the Chicago winds, and we all immediately relit each other's candles, without so much as a word. I thought that was a pretty good symbol for the ceremony.

People I didn't know, and people I knew got up and gave their words of support, and everyone was so eloquent, even through sniffles and tears. I saw lots of Virginia Tech sweatshirts, lots of orange and maroon, and lots of Northwestern apparel. Because even though we were there to support our fellow college students, we also united together as a college community, something I think NU doesn't do enough. It was really moving to see lots of people I've only seen in passing, or across the room in lectures, join my friends and me in a common cause.

And as we all gathered around in a huge pack, waiting patiently to sign a banner we're sending to Blacksburg, I knew I had kindred spirits at my university. It's scary to know that if it happened there, it could happen here, but at the same time, I know deep down, we're all good people. This ceremony showed it.

a shift in things

Well, it finally happened. My mom's moving to Pennsylvania.

My mom and my brother are moving the first week of April, to middle-of-nowhere Scranton, fictional home of T.V. series The Office and where most of my family lives.

I knew this was coming for a while, since her house was on the market for months and months before she got an offer (the market's really bad, yadda yadda). But it's kind of weird knowing that this break will be the last time I'll ever be in this house.

My dad fought with my mom for a while about moving at all, since my dad wants to be near my brother, but he finally gave in after I left for college, since my brother always wanted to move.

So this isn't a gigantic deal, because my dad's still living in South Florida, but it means that over breaks, I won't be spending as much time here as I normally would. I'll have to split up my time between Scranton and Boca.

And as much as I hate to say it, I wish she weren't moving. Yeah, I know, she deserves to be where she wants, she hates Boca, can't afford it, isn't happy here. But Scranton is just so BORING! There's absolutely nothing to do -- it used to be a big coal town, but now it's just kind of there, no real industry. There's a mall about 20 minutes away, a movie theatre, and a ski place, but that's it. At least it's a train ride away from NYC. And at least I won't be living there full-time.

I'll be in Boca for most of the summer, seeing as I've applied for 2 internships here (I already got Breakthrough, but I'm waiting on Boca Raton Magazine before I decide), but I'll probalby spend the last part of break in Scranton. But in terms of next year's vacations, who knows? I want to spend time with friends, but I have to see my mom and brother and all too.

So, it's kind of confusing. I've never lived anywhere else but South Florida (and I guess Evanston). This should be interesting, but weird, since I'll have to bring a suitcase every time I want to see my mom.

Anna Nicole Smith died today at the Seminole Hard Rock.

She's survived by a five-month-old baby daughter.

Drugs are bad, y'all.

I swear it's not sad this time. It's ridiculous. It's from a soap opera.
If you get over the horrible accent, you start to feel for Zarf (yes, it's her real name) until the very last line. I laugh every time, although I really shouldn't.

I'm writing an after-dinner speech about Boomeritis, which is basicaly old people trying to exercise like they're still 20 and end up breaking lots of bones.

Because I'm not funny, I need your help.

Comment with crazy activities old people could do that would end up in a trip to the hospital. (Really bad example: Breaking their hip trying sumo wrestling.)

You guys are hysterical. Help!

what's the hardest part about being you?

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...
7. When you're finished tag some other people to do it!

Hello world.

I saw Stephen Colbert in person today. I sang the Northwestern fight song with him today.

Did you? (With the exception of a few, the answer is no. We're so awesome.)

Want to learn about Northwestern stereotypes? Sure you do. You might not get all the Northwestern references, but you have to love the singing guy, and the fact that someone put all the time and effort they did into a YouTube video.

Did you guys know that Go Ask Alice wasn't actually a diary? And that it wasn't written by a teenage girl?

According to this site: http://www.snopes.com/language/literary/askalice.asp , it was written by a Mormon group as part of a "scared straight" initiative.

Dude, my middle school literary experience has just been retroactively shattered.
